Income Tax Department Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh

The Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, M.P.& C.G. Region, exercises jurisdiction over the State of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. There are two Chief Commissioners of Income Tax and one Director General of Income Tax (Inv.) for the entire region of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax is based at Bhopal. Besides the Pr.CCIT, Director General of Income Tax (Inv.) are based in the city Bhopal. There are two Chief Commissioners of Income Tax, stationed at Indore and Raipur.

The Principal Chief Commissioner of Income tax stationed at Bhopal is the Cadre Controlling Authority of the Region and has the jurisdiction over the region. The other Chief Commissioners of Income Tax have distinct territorial jurisdiction. The Director General of Income Tax (Inv.) has jurisdiction over the Investigation Directorate entrusted with the task of carrying out Search and Seizure operations and monitoring assessment of search cases in Central Circles. The Income-Tax Department is making every effort to make the process of filing tax returns easy and convenient. It is also publishing the necessary information to make the mechanics/functioning of department clear and transparent.

Information related to span of control, office addresses, tax related information, circulars, and Notification of Jurisdictions etc. have been made available for public access. This is to enable the taxpayers to know the hierarchy of the officials, file tax returns and access latest news from the Ministry. The Income Tax Department trusts the tax payers and most of the taxes have been contributed voluntarily by the people of MP & CG Region. The Department is committed to constantly improve the standards of key services to the taxpayers. Aayakar Seva Kendra (ASK), a single window facility for taxpayers for filing all applications for services & redressal of grievances including paper returns is one of the major steps towards achieving Vision of the Department.

The department is responsible for the collection of taxes from individuals, companies, and other taxpayers operating within these states.
It conducts assessments to determine the correct tax liability of individuals, businesses, and entities. This includes scrutiny of filed returns and investigations into potential tax evasion or underreporting.
The department ensures that taxpayers comply with the income tax laws, initiating actions like audits, penalties, and prosecution in case of violations.
The department also provides various services to taxpayers such as assistance in filing returns, resolving grievances, and offering tax-related guidance.
Promoting tax literacy through workshops, seminars, and online resources to ensure that taxpayers understand their rights and responsibilities.
This includes efforts to curb tax evasion, combat black money, and identify undisclosed income through the Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) and Imposition of Tax Act, 2015.
